SAETÍA

The island of "Saetia" in western Cuba and off the coast of Santiago de Cuba is truly an unusual place. Over 40 years ago antelopes, zebras, deers and other animals of African origin were brought to this remote island as a type of experiment. Since then these animals have multiplied significantly and provide an oasis of Africa right here in Cuba. This 42 km 2 island boasts full hotel accommodations, safari expeditions, camp out's and hunting facilities. Vegetation is abundant and microclimates have created grassy planes and desert scenery. Rental of 4x4 vehicles is available for visiting tourists.

PINARES DE MAYARI VALLEY

In the Northern oriental area of Cuba, based in the Mesura national park belonging to Nipe-Cristal valley region, is the Pinares de Mayari Valley. Principle attractions are the surrounding vegetation of 293 species of plants with 67 unique to this area and over 500 species of birds nestled into a small valley. Bird watchers worldwide visit this region to follow migration and spot unique Cuban birds. Horse back riding is available through this valley. A truly amazing experience.

THE GREAT STONE

This national park is one of the most amazing marvels in Cuba. Covering 4 300 hectares and standing 1226m above sea level this rock formation is unique. Estimated to weigh over 63,000,000 tons you will be in awe of its size and idyllic location. Located on the Santiago de Cuba mountain range this area also offers a dinosaur exhibition and a cool microclimate range.

At the summit and on a clear day you can see the Blue Mountain range of Jamaica. Throughout the whole range there are footpaths, which can be visited via horseback, camping, pick-nick areas and cabins. Guides are on hand with information for visitors about the topography of the area and historic facts. Accommodation is close by for those who wish to soak up nature at this beautiful national park.
